Mývatn, Iceland

Nice places around Mývatn area

Hverfjall, cone ring volcano in the back

Mývatn is a shallow lake in an area of active volcanism. It’s an interested area to observe birds, landscape evaluation, glacial geology and also human settlement.

Víti is a huge explosion crater, about 300 metres in diameter. The crater was formed during a massive volcanic eruption at the start of the famous Mývatn Fires in 1724. The eruption continued more or less non-stop for 5 years and Víti’s bubbling cauldron of mud boiled for more than a century after that.

Krafla vulcano

Grjótagjá, small lava cave with a thermal spring inside. Until the 1970s Grjótagjá was a popular bathing site, but during the eruptions from 1975 to 1984 the temperature of the water rose to more than 50 °C. Though the temperature is slowly decreasing and has fallen below 50 °C again.

Prav fino je, ko nam tako postopoma sreviraš svoje čudovite fotografije z Islandije, da se vsake toliko spomnimo, kako lepo je bilo in da bo treba nujno še kdaj tja!
