Wadi Bani Habib

by ElHefe

Abandoned village on the massive plateau of Jebel Akhdar.

The Jebel Akhdar, meaning “green mountain”, is part of the Al Hajar Mountains range.
It lies at higher altitudes (1800m) and receives around 300 mm of precipitation annually, moist enough to allow the growth of shrubs and trees and support agriculture (pomegranates, apricots, peaches and walnuts).

Village is abandoned due to progress. As Oman started develop in the mid eighties, the Sultan had schools and roads built in strategic locations. As villagers in the wadis wanted to send their kids to school and have access to roads, many of the villagers ended up moving closer to the schools forming new villages in easier to reach locations.
